A Little Information About the Elements...
The four elements of Fire, Earth, Air & Water provide key building blocks for magical work. While the pentagram signifies protection and the pentacle unity and wholeness, to the Wiccan practitioner the four elements of Fire, Earth, Air and Water describe the main energy source of the Universe (and therefore the Whole of creation) and for this reason are of fundamental importance.
Everything is part of one or more elements; everything that is whole contains all four and everything can be understood more deeply if we divide its energy into the four elements.
Think for a moment how each interacts with the other... Water is supported by Earth and becomes secure; Earth is filled by Water and becomes complete; Air is warmed by Fire and becomes light; Fire, fed by Air ignites with dynamic energy... ... ... while Spirit, the fifth element (quintessence) encompasses them all...
So Why Are The Elements Important?
The role that the elements play in Wicca is more than just physical (what we can see and feel) because each one also has its own personality, which in turns brings both emotional and spiritual aspects. In fact the elements give us a way of appraising everything -that which is within our understanding and that which his beyond it because they provide a structured approach for us to identify the unknowable and give us a system of interrelations... ... ... and magic is all about interrelations.
One of the basic principles of magic is sympathy, by this I mean creating a harmony or direct relationship in your work, for example, using a doll to represent a person. The elements offer us a wider sympathy and are used to create an indirect relationship in magic, for example, a candle is not the same as a lion, a volcano or the colour red, but all are used to represent fire.
In magical work use your whole life experience and connect with the Universe. Broaden your sense of unity with Creation and deepen your affinity with Spirit.
